Development and Training

The SC Budget and Control Board commits to achieving excellence in all that we do. We recognize that the only way to accomplish that goal is through a team of dedicated, well trained employees who have the tools and resources to do their jobs. The purpose of the Board's employee development process is to create a culture of learning.

Learning Opportunities
Learning opportunities at the Board include on-the-job, experiential, classroom, and on-line formats. Employees and supervisors work together to identify development needs and decide which method is best for meeting those needs. All software and computer classes for Board employees are conducted through Microbyte. Employees must schedule these classes through their office/division training liaison.

Orientation for New Employees
In an effort to ease the transition for employees new to state government or to the Board, the Budget and Control Board offers two orientation programs that are accessible on-line.

Professional and Leadership Development
The SC Budget and Control Board has identified the competencies needed to lead effectively within the Board. All leaders, whether managing a group of employees or taking responsibility for carrying out a project, are expected to practice and hone mastery of the competencies. To help potential leaders develop their skills, the Board offers the following programs:
    ● Board 101 - Pathway to Excellence
    ● Board Academy (coming in 2009)
    ● SC State Government Professional Management Certification Program (CPM)

Tuition Assistance
For those employees who would like to pursue additional formal education , the Board offers a Tuition Assistance Program.
