Critical Points to Remember

If you have to utilize the substandard performance process, remember the following:

  • Confront the employee when there is a problem.  

  • Do not let a problem go for an extended period of time, hoping that it will clear up on its own.

  • Your primary emphasis should be on prevention.

  • Take the coaching and counseling sessions that you have seriously, and try to rehabilitate the employee.  

  • You should  be consciously trying to avoid an employee grievance situation.
